Teaching in the Open: Reimagining Learning with an Open Educational Medical Game

Open Access Week 2025 - Session 3

Join us for an inspiring session led by Senior Lecturer in Medicine, Dr. Nara Jones, showcasing Diagnosis – a medical education game developed as an open educational resource (OER) in collaboration with students.

Created through the Council of Australasian University Librarians’ OER Collective and hosted on the Pressbooks platform, Diagnosis highlights how open pedagogy can drive innovation in both teaching and learning. Winner of the 2024 Patil Teaching Innovation Award, the game stands as a leading example of how open educational resources can support creative, student-centred approaches in higher education.

Attendees will gain practical insights into:

  • Co-creating learning materials with students
  • How open platforms like Pressbooks support flexible, accessible teaching
  • Enhancing student engagement through open and participatory approaches
  • Leveraging OERs to support inclusive and innovative teaching

Bring your questions! Session will include Q&A time.

This session will be recorded; the link to the recording will be emailed to all registrants 24 hours after the event.
