Developing search strategies for systematic and scoping reviews in health

Are you a health researcher embarking on a systematic or scoping review? This interactive webinar presented by Learning & Research Librarians goes beyond the basics of searching: it gives you a thorough understanding of how to search databases in a transparent, reproducible and systematic manner; using advanced search methods in Medline via Ovid.

This is an interactive webinar; you will have the opportunity to practise searching Medline via Ovid for literature on your own topic. So please bring along:

  • your specific research question,
  • relevant search terms, and
  • 2-3 examples of key papers on your topic.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the difference between PubMed and Medline
  • Be able to use the Advanced Search (ie Search Fields and Search Tools modes) in Medline via Ovid
  • Apply advanced search operators and wildcards
  • Understand and search controlled vocabulary terms, ie MeSH terms
  • Save your searches, set up alerts and export your search results
  • Use search filters
  • Understand reporting requirements for systematic and scoping review searches

Audience: HDR candidates, ECR, and any health researchers wanting a refresher on systematic searching approaches
